Acerca de este lugar
Located in the municipality of Tzimol, the El Chiflón Waterfalls are among the most imposing natural wonders in Chiapas. Fed by the San Vicente River, the water cascades down a series of stepped falls framed by a warm, dry jungle.
The undisputed star of the park is the Velo de Novia (Bridal Veil), a breathtaking 120-meter (393-foot) free-fall. Its sheer power, deafening roar, and the constant mist it generates create a spectacle often decorated by permanent rainbows in the sunlight.
The park features an ascending trail of about 1.2 kilometers, consisting of more than 700 stone and wooden steps. As you...
climb, you will discover other beautiful falls like El Suspiro (The Sigh) and Ala de Ángel (Angel Wing), along with deep turquoise pools where swimming is permitted in lower, calmer areas. The hike is a rewarding physical challenge that culminates at the highest viewpoints, where you can feel the full force of the spray. For thrill-seekers, zip-lines cross the canyon right in front of the falls, offering an adrenaline-pumping aerial view of the entire complex.
The infrastructure is well-organized and divided into two sides of the river, managed by different local cooperatives. Both sides offer cabins, restaurants, and rest areas.
The combination of the bright blue water, green cypress trees, and the pure white of the falling water creates one of the most iconic photographic landscapes in Chiapas.
💡 Consejos:
Prepare to Get Soaked: When you reach the main Velo de Novia viewpoint, the mist is so strong you will be drenched in seconds. Bring a light raincoat or a change of clothes if you don't want to be wet for the rest of the day.
Physical Condition: The climb is...
demanding. Wear athletic shoes with good grip, carry plenty of water, and take breaks at the intermediate viewpoints to catch your breath and enjoy the scenery.
Choose Your Side: There are two entrances (one on each side of the river). The "Velo de Novia" cooperative side usually has viewpoints closer to the main drop, while the "Cascadas El Chiflón" side offers a more panoramic view.
Ideal Timing: Arrive early (around 8:00 AM) to avoid the crowds and the intense midday heat, as the weather here is significantly hotter than in San Cristóbal.
Adrenaline Option: If you don't want to walk all the way back down, look into the zip-line service; it’s a fast and exciting way to return to the base!
