Acerca de este lugar
The Tres Tzimoleras, located in the municipality of Tzimol near Comitán de Domínguez, are one of the best-kept secrets in Chiapas.
Unlike the Chiflón waterfalls, which are located further downstream and feature developed tourist infrastructure, the Tzimoleras offer a pristine setting where the San Vicente River plunges in three majestic stepped falls. The crystal-clear turquoise water filters through travertine formations, creating deep pools surrounded by savanna and lowland jungle vegetation that feels frozen in time. Here, nature is shown without filters: there are no railings or concrete walkways—only the roar of the water and the echo of the jungle.
Access to...
this paradise is not easy, which has helped preserve its untouched air. Reaching the falls requires a journey in 4x4 vehicles through dirt roads crossing sugarcane fields, followed by hikes along steep trails. The reward is a breathtaking natural scene: three waterfalls of varying heights (the largest being about 60 meters) plunging into deep, crystalline pools. The sound of water crashing against rocks and the singing of birds are the only sounds that break the mountain's silence, offering a spiritual connection to the earth.
This destination is the epicenter of adventure tourism in the Llanos region. Local cooperatives in Tzimol have developed low-impact activities to enjoy the environment to the fullest, such as rappelling alongside the waterfalls, interpretive hiking, and swimming in natural pools.
Visiting the Tres Tzimoleras is a lesson in the importance of community conservation; the site is managed by local families who protect their water heritage, offering an authentic experience where the traveler is an honored guest in a hidden sanctuary.
💡 Consejos:
Hire a Local Tour & Guide: It is essential to go with certified guides. The path is complicated, and they possess the appropriate vehicles and safety equipment for mountain activities.
Ideal Season: Visit between December and May. During these months, the water maintains its characteristic turquoise color. In the rainy season,...
the river swells, the water turns brown from sediment, and access becomes more dangerous.
Prepare to Get Wet: Bring water shoes with good grip (aquashoes) and quick-drying clothing. Even if you don't rappel, you will cross small streams to reach the best viewpoints.
Support the Local Economy: After the tour, try the traditional sweets of Tzimol and the comiteco, a distilled spirit made from local maguey that is the pride of the region.
