Built between 1613 and 1621, it was created specifically for the Indigenous and Afro-descendant populations of the colonial era.\r\n\r\nOften hidden by the size of the neighboring Cathedral, this small building is special because it is the only one that keeps its original \"Mud\u00e9jar\" style (a Spanish-Moorish design) almost intact. Because it was built as a parish for the city's minority groups, it holds great historical and social value, telling the story of the different social levels during colonial times.\r\n\r\nIts architecture is unusual for the Chiapas landscape. Unlike other churches with busy stone carvings, San Nicol\u00e1s has a simple structure made of brick and plaster. Its bell tower looks like something from a quiet corner of Andalusia, Spain.\r\n\r\nThe thick walls and simple floor plan create a peaceful space that feels different from any other temple in the city. When looking at the outside, you will notice a design that focuses on simple shapes and balance. Throughout history, the building has been used for many things, from an archive to a meeting space, but it has always remained a spiritual refuge.\r\n\r\nLocated in the \"Plaza de la Paz,\" this church offers a fascinating visual contrast to the bright Baroque facade of the Cathedral. While the Cathedral is large and colorful, San Nicol\u00e1s quietly tells the history of the people who helped build the city. The interior is modest but offers a quiet break from the busy historic center. The light coming through the small windows creates an authentic atmosphere that takes visitors back to the early years of the city. It is, without a doubt, the best-kept secret in the heart of San Crist\u00f3bal.","mensaje_whatsapp":"Hola, vi su lugar en Visita San Cris y quisiera m\u00e1s informaci\u00f3n.","mensaje_email":"Hola, Perspective: Stand on the north side of the \"Plaza de la Paz\" at sunset. You can capture the modern square, the grand Cathedral, and the unique shape of San Nicol\u00e1s all in one photo. It shows a wonderful contrast of different architectural styles.\r\n\r\nAppreciate the Brickwork: Get close to the outside walls to see the original brick and plaster work. This is one of the few places where you can see 17th-century construction techniques that haven't been changed by modern repairs.\r\n\r\nA Place to Rest: Since this is a pedestrian area, the benches near San Nicol\u00e1s are perfect for sitting and watching daily life. It is an excellent spot to enjoy a coffee or local bread (\"pan coleto\") while listening to the sounds of the main square.\r\n\r\nVisit the Interior: Sometimes the church is closed during the day when there are no services, but if you find the door open, go inside. Even though it is just steps away from the busy city center, the total silence inside is a very peaceful experience."},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/visita-chiapas.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/lugares\/143","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/visita-chiapas.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/lugares"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/visita-chiapas.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/lugares"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/visita-chiapas.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=143"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/visita-chiapas.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=143"},{"taxonomy":"tipo_lugar","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/visita-chiapas.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tipo_lugar?post=143"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
