Founded in 1537, it was the first convent established in the city. Although the building has changed over time due to earthquakes and repairs, the structure we see today is a great example of neoclassical style with strong walls that remind us of its past as a protected convent.\r\n\r\nVisually, the church stands out with its white and yellow facade and two elegant bell towers. When you walk inside, the style is very different from other churches in the city. Instead of heavy gold decorations, you will find beautiful paintings of flowers on the walls and ceilings. This makes the space feel bright, large, and very peaceful. One of its most important treasures is the main altar, where the image of the Virgin of La Merced has been honored for centuries.\r\n\r\nThe importance of this site goes beyond the church itself. The building next door, which is now the Amber Museum, has a fascinating history: it has been a convent, a military base, and even a prison.\r\n\r\nThe La Merced neighborhood is famous for its strong community and local crafts. Visiting this church is not just about faith; it is about visiting the starting point of the city's history. It is a quiet place where colonial history, art, and local life come together perfectly.","mensaje_whatsapp":"Hola, vi su lugar en Visita San Cris y quisiera m\u00e1s inside the Sacristy: If you have the chance and it is open, try to look into the sacristy area. It keeps some of the oldest parts of the original 16th-century building. You can see how construction styles changed over time. Also, be sure to ask for the entrance to the \"Calvario\" (Calvary).\r\n\r\nDetails in the Murals: Don\u2019t rush through the main hall. Take a moment to look at the paintings on the ceiling. The style and colors are very different from the ones in the Cathedral or Santo Domingo, showing a more European and modern influence for that time.\r\n\r\nAfternoon Moment: The square in front of the church is a great place to rest after visiting the museum next door. At sunset, the white and yellow walls of the temple catch the light, making the building glow brightly before night falls.\r\n\r\nLa Merced Festival: If you are in the city on September 24th, this is the place to be.
