Its history is tied to the grand \"Arco del Carmen,\" which served as the gateway to the colonial city. Founded in the 17th century, this building has survived fires and time, transforming from a quiet convent into a vibrant center for creativity and art in the southern part of downtown.\r\n\r\nFinding the entrance can be a bit confusing for first-time visitors. To get there, walk south along the Andador Miguel Hidalgo (the street with many bars and restaurants) toward the monumental Arco del Carmen. Once you are in front of the Arch, the entrance to the Cultural Center is located at the back, on your left-hand side. Be careful not to confuse it with the public library or the administrative offices; the center begins past a gate that leads you into a majestic interior courtyard.\r\n\r\nThe building is a perfect example of Chiapas colonial style, with thick adobe walls, red tile roofs, and a beautiful central garden. Today, it houses temporary art exhibits, a public library, and a cinema that shows art films and documentaries.
